I am an anthropologist who studies law, gender and sexuality, and Islamic traditions. I have conducted fieldwork in the Kurdistan region of Iraq since 2004, working primarily in Sorani Kurdish, alongside textual traditions in Arabic and Persian.
I am currently Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Bard College in New York, USA. I was recently a Visiting Fellow at the Program on Law and Society in the Muslim World at Harvard Law School, and previously at New York University Abu Dhabi, I was a Humanities Research Fellow, a Lecturer, then Senior Lecturer in Humanities. My first book, Between Muslims: Religious Difference in Iraqi Kurdistan, was published by Stanford University Press in September 2020. In 2022, it was honored with the Biannual Book Award from the Association of Middle East Anthropology. Contact me at andrewbush.edu at gmail dot com. |
